António Napoleão was my paternal grandfather. I was barely three when he passed, perhaps younger, and so I hold no true memory of him. Over the years, I have woven a fabricated remembrance: images and stories of a man I never knew. This documentary stems from that absence, exploring how the imaginary fills the void left by the unremembered. It is a search that dwells between reality and fiction, between the silence of forgetting and the urge to remember.

Decades after the passage of André Malraux through the Pyrenées Orientales, the documentary starts from the vestiges that remain to rediscover the man, the writer and the heritage that surrounded him. Among ruins, landscapes, memories and archives, we go through the places that Malraux knew and observe what time has erased and what still resists. From unpublished diaries, the film reconstructs, between reality and imagination, the atmosphere of a region marked by the contrast between ephemeral and permanence.

The intensity of a romance awakens a strange inhabitant of Lilo’s belly who forces him to confront the red door that is nailed to his body, leading him on a psychological journey back to himself.

In filming throughout the year, in a road movie and meta-cinema style with intimate interviews, the short film follows the professional career of French artist Patrick Levasseur (playwright, comedian, director, painter and writer). It addresses the importance of culture, especially in small communes, its essential role on the personal and social level of inhabitants. The film also offers a retrospective look at the department of the Pyrenées Orientales, which the artist chose to embrace while leaving his Parisian life behind. Through villages, medieval ruins and castles, the documentary aims to enhance the history, culture and heritage of the region, in parallel with the sensitive gaze and artistic work of Patrick Levasseur.
